Manipur Governor Sushri Anusuiya Uikey inspected Indo-Myanmar Border fencing along the Border Pillar 79 and 80 in Manipur’s border town Moreh and took stock of the situation pertaining to security measures for checking infiltration, drugs trafficking, smuggling and others.

The Manipur Governor’s visit to the border assumes significance since a number of Myamar nationals have crossed over to the Indian side through Manipur seeking refuge after fleeing from their country owing to the ongoing turmoil in Myanmar.

During the visit the Assam Rifles also briefed Governor Anusuiya Uikey about the preparedness along the border to face any eventuality keeping in mind the disturbances in Myanmar.

Representatives of various civil society organisations also raised various issues with the Governor which included resumption of border trade between India and Myanmar, network issues as well as various other issues of public interest.

The Governor informed that she was at border town Moreh following a request from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and assured that every issue concerning the people would be conveyed to the Prime Minister.
