Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appealed to people of both the states living along the interstate boundary to resolve all differences through dialogue. Besides, Chief Minister Khandu also emphasized on the fact that every stakeholder must be taken into confidence when such kind of efforts happen.
Pema Khandu made this fervent appeal while gracing the Golden Jubilee Rongali Bihu celebrations at Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district.
The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister believes that no matter in which ever way the boundary is finalized, the bonhomie and brotherhood between the people of the two states will never cease to exist.
“Arunachal Pradesh was born out of Assam. We are brothers. Our brotherhood and respect for each other will never be disturbed any demarcated boundary,” he said.
Besides, Khandu pointed out that previous governments never considered this issue to be an important, hence for which it has remain unresolved over the years. He also lauded Centre as well as the Assam government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking necessary steps to put an end to this issue once and for all.
In this context, Khandu said,”“For more than 50 years, the interstate boundary disagreements between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh remained in the shelves. In fact, no previous government, both at the state and center, even bothered to touch the sensitive issue. We must be thankful to the central BJP leadership and the BJP governments of Assam and Arunachal that today this issue is being amicably resolved through dialogue,” Khandu pointed.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu also urged the Regional Committees constituted on both sides, to revisit the areas along Dhemaji district in Assam and Lower Siang in Arunachal Pradesh for resolving issues amicably, which still persists there.
Worth mentioning, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had signed a historic MoU on April 20 in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to permanently settle border dispute between both the states that has been lingering for over 70 years.
Prior to that in July 2022 a major breakthrough was achieved when, the Namsai Declaration was signed by the two CMs. The declaration was signed at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh following the third round of meetings on the issue between chief minister Pema Khandu and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma.
As per the Namsai Declaration, 28 of the 123 disputed villages “which are within the constitutional boundary of Arunachal Pradesh” shall remain with Arunachal Pradesh. Following the withdrawal of claims by Arunachal Pradesh, three villages will remain with Assam. Six more villages, which “couldn’t be located on the Assam side”, will remain with Arunachal Pradesh if they are found to be present on the state’s side, the declaration had stated.
