Two mild tremors felt in Darrang and Jorhat districts of Assam

Quake measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale hit Jorhat. Another quake measuring 2.8 hit Darrang this morning

Two mild earthquakes jolted Assam’s Darrang and Jorhat districts early this morning.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale, hit 23 km south of Jorhat at around 9:03 a.m. on Saturday at a depth of 50 km, the National Center for Seismology informed.

Another earthquake measuring 2.8 hit Assam’s Darrang district at a depth of 9 km at 11:02 a.m.

Northeast India have been frequently experiencing earthquakes this year. Between January 1 and March 14, 2023, at least 30 light and minor tremors were recorded in the area.

The Northeastern part of India falls under seismic zone 5 meaning areas prone to earthquakes.
