An illegal racket operating in Assam Barpeta has been looting crores from funds allocated for a scholarship of meritorious students.

In a shocking case, an illegal racket operating in Assam Barpeta has been looting crores from funds allocated for a scholarship of meritorious students belonging to minority groups under the Ishan Uday Scholarship Programme.

It is learnt that the police have arrested two individuals in connection with the scam. The duo identified as Jeharul Islam and Habibur Rahman used the bank account password and OTP of colleges and even forged signatures to encash the scholarship money. The duo has been reportedly involved in the scam since 2018.

It may be mentioned here that students who secured 75 percent in the Higher Secondary examinations are to be given a scholarship of Rs 60,000 by the state government.

Likewise, the centre to has announced scholarships for meritorious students from the minority sections.

Meanwhile, Additional SP Dr Pradip Saikia has informed that the entire racket will be busted soon.
