The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has warned to shut down the Kokrajhar University if Vice Chancellor Laishram Ladu Singh is not removed at the earliest. Not only this, the influential students body is also mulling to gherao the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) in Guwahati and block the National Highway 31 (C).

The Bodo heartland is witnessing intermittent protests for months demanding removal of VC Singh over his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in the learning institute.

ABSU president Dwipen Boro today joined protestors staging demonstration seeking ouster of the Bodoland University VC and warned that the agitation shall continue if the corruption accused is not removed.

The ABSU president also appealed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to immediately arrest Laishram Ladu Singh.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live Boro said, “The bail he got from the Gauhati High Court must be cancelled. Our peaceful protest for the betterment of Kokrajhar University will continue. If situation demands we will shut down the Bodoland University, gherao the Raj Bhavan and block the National Highway.”

Not only this, the ABSU president also came down heavily on the Governor constituted committee to probe the allegations levelled against Ladu Singh.

Dwipen Boro in this context said, “We want to know as to how someone can be still a VC after getting bail following his arrest. The Governor constituted committee to look into the matter led by Mihir Kanti Choudhury is trying to shield him. The Committee must work in favour of the university and the Bodo people and not for VC Laishram Ladu Singh. It should be made known to us as to whether the committee was set up to protect the VC or to remove him.”

Earlier this year, a team of Special Vigilance Cell of the Chief Minister had arrested Ladu Singh for his involvement in the corruption cases. The vigilance cell had reportedly taken away as many as nine official files from the office chamber of Singh for investigation. However, Singh could obtain anticipatory bail very shortly after the arrest and has been performing official work of the University despite being arrested.
A case of embezzlement of money from the University was registered against the Vice Chancellor on May 2022.

This has irked the different pressure groups in the Bodo heartland who are now seeking removal of Laishram Ladu Singh at the earliest.
