After creating havoc in Odisha, cyclone ‘Fani’ moved towards Assam and Bangladesh on Saturday.
While the extremely severe cyclone weakened into a deep depression and lies centered over Bangladesh, the region still continues to be on alert in the wake of incessant rains since morning.
As cyclone Fani moves towards Bangladesh, it is expected to lash Assam and the Northeastern region for two days from Saturday.

The Central MeT Department has already issued a Yellow and an Orange alert for Assam following which the Assam government issued a warning in all districts.
The Department officials said Assam will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and wind in at least 10 places including Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup, South Salmara, Mankachar and parts of Baksa.
The Department has issued an Orange category warning for these places. On the other hand, Kamrup(Metro), Nalbari, Darang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Cachar and Karimganj will see very heavy rainfall and are marked under a Yellow category warning for the same.
On Sunday, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Sonitpur, Udalguri district will also see heavy rainfall, as per the MeT department.
A total of 13 flights from Guwahati to Kolkata have been cancelled for the next two days.
Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India has cancelled over 80 flights in the Northeast region, as many as 59 flights in Guwahati, 8 in Agartala, 2 in Dimapur, 2 in Lilabari, 4 in Dibrugarh and 6 in Imphal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre at Guwahati said there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong surface wind with a speed of up to 40 km per hour in most Northeastern states on May 4 and 5.
All ferry services on the Brahmaputra have also been suspended for at least the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the Guwahati police has released phone numbers in case of any eventualities from the fallout of ‘Fani’. No loss of life or any injury has been reported so far.

In the wake of the situation, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to twitter urging people to stay alert and safe.
Sonowal also stated that the district administrations, Assam State Disaster Management Authority as well as the disaster relief forces have been put on high alert.
