Assam CHief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today made a big statement and said that the Assam Police as well as other security agencies have launched a massive manhunt to trace another radicalized student studying in Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati).

The Assam CM made this statement after a student of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati), who was allegedly on his way to join the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) was detained by the Assam Police from Hajo yesterday.

CM Sarma said that the arrested IIT student was highly radicalized in his thought process and that central intelligence and security agencies have been alerted on the matter.

Regarding the possibility that there might be another accomplice of the arrested student said, “An unfortunate incident has come to light from the IIT-Guwahati. Not only one, but our assumption is that there is another such student in the institute. The police is probing the matter. During the course of the investigation it has come to light that there are 2 students, one has been traced, the other one is yet to be traced, most probably we will find that student today. The entire thought process has been completely radicalized. WE have informed the parents of the student, he is from Delhi a resident near Batla House, we have alerted the central agencies. When the student was interrogated, it is clear that the thought process is completely radicalized.”

According to reports, the IIT student who has been apprehended had sent an email to the police claiming that he intended to join the terrorist outfit.

In a LinkedIn post, he described why he decided to join ISIS and then went missing from the institute campus. After receiving an email, police took action and issued a lookout alert for the student. Later, he was found in Hajo, around 30 km from Guwahati, in Kamrup district and detained for interrogation.
