Over 250 people from Assam stranded in violence-hit Meghalaya ferried back home

The Assam police assisted by Meghalaya police rescued as many as 250 people from Ichamati in Shella. These people were reportedly stranded in the area following the violent clashes.

The rescued persons were brought to Jorabat police station where the identification process was carried out. The stranded persons hail from Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhubri besides several other districts in Assam.

The move to rescue the individual is part of an Assam government initiative.

East Bilasipara MLA, Ashok Singhi who was the first person to have apprised Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal about the matter said that CM Sonowal without any delay took up the matter with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma, following which the individuals were rescued in a fast track manner.

Singhi said around 300 more individuals are stranded under areas falling under the Bholaganj police outpost and will be brought back soon.

The MLA believes peace will prevail in Meghalaya as the Centre and the state government is making all out efforts to restore normalcy.
