Assam girl Jintimoni Kalita has become the first woman cricketer from the state to play in the World Premier League (WPL) by winning the first-ever WPL match held at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium yesterday.
Harmanpreet Kaur led Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling seven-wicket victory defeating Delhi Capitals to win the first Women’s Premier League trophy.
Who is Jintimoni Kalita?
Jintimoni Kalita hails from Mangaldoi town of Darrang district in Assam. Born on December 25, 2023, Jintimoni Kalita is a left-handed batter. She can also bowl medium pace.

Sports, especially cricket, have always been a passion for Jintumoni Kalita. She began her practice in 2017 and started to represent Assam in several Indian states such as–Rajasthan, Bangalore, and Madhya Pradesh in 2018.
Earlier she said that getting into the Indian Cricket Team is her main goal.

Before eventually getting selected for the Indian Under-19 Women’s Quadrangular series in 2022, she had previously participated in the Challengers Trophy on two occasions.
She was on the list of probable players for the first U-19 World Cup for Women, however, she was unable to make the final squad.
Later, Mumbai Indians paid Rs 10 lakh to get the 19-year-old cricketer at the WPL auction.
It may be mentioned here that the Board of Control for Cricket in India launched the Women’s Premier League in an effort to get young girls interested in playing cricket.
