Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain was formally appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police today.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over the appointment letter to Lovlina at a special ceremony held at the Janata Bhawan.
Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote journey of Lovlina Borgohain from the ‘backwaters of Assam’ to Olympic glory is inspiring and hoped that she will continue to “inspire the youth with her achievements in sports & official work”.
CM Sarma announced that apart from the salary she will draw as a DSP the Assam government has earmarked Rs 1 lakh to help her continue her training.

It may be mentioned here that the government announced to appoint Lovlina as a DSP following her impressive feat at the Tokyo Olympics held last year where she bagged a bronze medal for the country.
Speaking at the program, Chief Minister Sarma today yet again urged the youth of the state to refrain from consuming drugs. CM Sarma said usage of drugs not only affects the youth physically but also harms them mentally.
The Chief Minister then further added that drug use can be reduced only by participating in sports.
Pugilist Lovlina Borgohain made history when she won a bronze medal in the women’s welterweight event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, becoming only the third Indian boxer to do so.
She is also the first athlete from Assam to win an Olympic medal.
