Guwahati: 2 deaths in one day: One stabbed to death, another found hanging from a gate

Guwahati woke up this morning to the news of a dreadful murder and a body of a man found hanging amid the Bihu celebrations.

In one incident, one person was stabbed to death with a knife during a Bihu programme in the Maligaon area yesterday night.

As per inputs, the man identified as Simanta Talukdar had gone to see a Bihu program in Maligaon Bihutoli near the railway stadium last night. But later he broke into an altercation with some youths on some issue.

During the fight, Simanta was seriously injured after being attacked with a knife by the other youths. He was rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) immediately, however, doctors declared him dead.

The police have so far arrested a youth identified as Rahul Baishya, a resident of Adilgiri in connection to the case.

In the other incident, a body of a man was found hanging from the gate of a house at Saurabh Nagar in Beltola area.

It has been said that the person was likely killed before being hanged from the gate. While some people are saying that he might have committed suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Subal Debbarma, a resident of Tripura.

As per sources, the incident took place in the wee hours today. Locals informed police about the incident after noticing the body.

Police has launched an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the family of the victim has urged the police to nab the perpetrator and demanded justice for Dev.
