DigiYatra launched at LGBI Airport in Guwahati

To make travelling easier, the state-of-the-art facial recognition technology DigiYatra was launched at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati today.
Assam cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary speaking to media after the launch said that the launch of DigiYatra will make travelling hassle-free.
“It is good news for the people of Assam and the northeast as a whole. Earlier, we had many formalities in checking. People faced varied issues, all such issues have been solved. It has become easy now,” Patowary said.
Terming the launch of Digi Yatra as a big move, Secretary, Civil Aviation, Rajeev Bansal, said, “Civil Aviation has made great progress in the country in the growth of new airports as well as new airlines. Digi Yatra is a new initiative in air travel in our country. Passengers will now be able to register their documents in the Digi Yatra app and enter the airport during the journey by scanning their faces. The gate will open as soon as the face is recognized on the camera.”
“The service will reach three major areas of the airport, such as the first entrance, check-in, and boarding areas. 80% of passengers in Varanasi and 20% in Delhi have already used this facility,” Rajeev Bansal said.
CAO, Guwahati Airport, Utpal Baruah said that the DigiYatra service are used by Indigo airline and Akasa airline starting today.
He added that by the end of September every airline will be will use DigiYatra.
DigiYatra is a facial recognition-based technology that produces a Biometric Enabled Seamless Travel (BEST) experience based on the Facial Recognition System (FRS).
The technology aims to provide contactless identification of passengers at key checkpoints like airport entry, security check, and boarding gate, saving time for travellers.
DigiYatra was launched in December of last year.
