The Governor's Office has issued an order informing that Pradip Kumar Patra, Rector and the senior most Professor of the University will be in-charge temporarily as the Vice Chancellor.

In a significant development, Bodoland University Vice Chancellor Professor Laishram Ladusingh has been sent on leave with effect from December 1. for which the Governor as well as Chancellor of the University, Gulab Chand Kataria, has already given his approval.

This comes after the Bodo heartland witnessed prolonged protests by different groups and organisations representing the students as well as the civil society seeking removal of Ladusingh, who has been accused of corruption.

An order issued by the Governor’s Secretariat informed that during Ladusingh’s period of leave, Pradip Kumar Patra, Rector and the senior most Professor of the University will be in-charge temporarily as the Vice Chancellor until further order.

On Tuesday, irked over the delay in removal of Laishram Ladu Singh, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) had announced a series of agitations with effect from December 4 till December 9.
And, if during the course their agitation, their demand is not met, they would march to the Raj Bhawan on December 15, the apex Bodo students’ body had said.

Earlier this year, a team of Special Vigilance Cell of the Chief Minister had arrested Ladu Singh for his involvement in the corruption cases. The vigilance cell had reportedly taken away as many as nine official files from the office chamber of Singh for investigation. However, Singh could obtain anticipatory bail very shortly after the arrest and has been performing official work of the University despite being arrested.
A case of embezzlement of money from the University was registered against the Vice Chancellor on May 2022.

The ABSU had questioned as to how a person (Laishram Ladusingh) who is under pre-arrest bail can hold the position of VC of the prestigious Bodoland University.
