A woman in Guwahati narrowly escaped a violent stabbing attempt, just days after two women were attacked in separate incidents across Assam, one of whom tragically died.
The fresh incident was reported from near the Dispur Police Station in Guwahati on Sunday, where a man identified as Rajesh Deb tried to attack a woman with a knife, however, the woman managed to flee from the Attacker and entered the premises of the Dispur Police Station seeking protection.
The woman, a mother of 2 children, had been in a relationship with Deb for about 3 years. However, she ended the relationship after learning that Rajesh already had two wives and 3 children.
Despite her decision, Rajesh insisted on continuing the relationship. As the woman repeatedly rejected him, the jilted lover attacked her last night. Fortunately, she managed to escape and subsequently filed a complaint with the police.
Speaking to the media, the victim said, “We were together for 3 years. 6 months ago, I found that he had 2 wives and 3 children, and I ended the relationship. Since then, he has been threatening to kill me and pressuring me to get back together. When I continued to reject him, he threatened to leak private videos of mine and has already attacked me twice before.”
Following her complaints, police filed an FIR against Rajesh Deb.
The fresh incident comes just days after a woman identified as Mousumi Gogoi was stabbed to death by her jilted lover for rejecting his proposal in Guwahati’s last gate area.
In a similar incident, another young woman was stabbed in broad daylight in the Bhumuraguri area of Nagaon district on December 28. The victim, identified as Aklima Khatun, works as a health worker in a private hospital and is currently fighting for her life in a critical condition at a local hospital.
