Two mountaineers from Assam–Bhaskar Baruah and Jayanta Nath made the state as well as the nation proud by successfully climbing Mount Kanchenjunga, 3rd highest mountain peak today at around 7. 15 am. To make the moment special, the duo unfurled the tricolour and the traditional Assamese gamosa at the peak.
Making this accomplishment a historic milestone, Assam Mountaineering Association (AMA) has become the first organisation from the Northeast to have this unique distinction, said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

President Droupadi Murmu had flagged off the Mt Kanchenjunga Expedition-2023 in April this year handed over the national flag and the symbolic ice-axe baton to the leader of the seven-member team of the Assam Mountaineering Association Manas Barua.
President Murmu had also conveyed her best wishes to the seven-member team and expressed her confidence that the expedition would be a great success and serve as an example for future mountaineers to scale even higher heights.
The team also included medical officer Dr. Jagadish Basumatary, deputy leader Upen Chakraborty, Koushik Das, and Shekhar Bordoloi in addition to Bhaskar Baruah, Jayanta Nath, and Manas Barua.
