BJP candidate Pabitra Margherita filed his nomination for the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections today. Apart from Margherita, UPPL candidate Rwngwra Narzary also filed his nomination. Both candidates filed their nomination papers in presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Apart from Chief Minister Sarma, other leaders who were present in the nomination filing include state BJP President Bhabesh Kalita, AGP chief and Assam minister Atul Bora, and UPPL chief Pramod Boro among others.
It may be mentioned here that the Rajya Sabha elections are slated to be held on March 31st. The BJP-led alliance is confident of sealing victory in both the Rajya Sabha seats.
Earlier, BJP leader and political secretary to Assam Chief Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah had stated that the BJP will not only get the vote of suspended Congress MLA from Raha Sashikanta Das, but will also secure the vote of Sherman Ali Ahmed, the other MLA to have been suspended by the opposition Congress.
And BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia took a dig at the Congress and said that the members of the opposition are bound to vote for the BJP for the sake of development.
