A minor girl, suspected to have been gang raped, was found with her hands and feet tied, mouth gagged, in a paddy field in Kokrajhar.

A police officer investigating the incident said, “We received information at the Salakati outpost at around 8 am this morning, stating that a minor was found with her hands and feet tied and blindfolded. Immediately our team rushed to the spot and recovered her. She has been admitted to the hospital and is not in a situation to talk properly right now. Though we have got some clues, but as of now there is no angle of sexual assault or any such. Doctors are observing her, but she has not revealed about anything. We are trying to apprehend those behind the incident. We hope that the case will be resolved very soon.”

An eye witness who noticed the girl lying in the field and raised an alarm said, “I was passing by and saw the girl lying with her hands and feet tied. But I did not see the miscreants. I alarmed others and we could recover her. There must be a proper probe into the incident and those guilty must be punished.”

All Assam Minorty Students Union (AAMSU) leaders also rushed to the spot soon after learning about the incident. One of the leaders said, “We suspect that she has been raped, there were 5 boys (accused). As per her statement later, we came to know that she was tricked by the boys to go to the field, who then sedated her. She said that she was forced to eat something, but she could not reveal as to what happened later. We suspect that the 5 boys raped her. We demand that the 5 accused be arrested soon and punished strictly, so that such incidents never repeat.”

However, everything will be clear once the investigation is complete.
