Assam: Massive crackdown on drug cartels: 24 arrested in less than 24 hours

Multiple raids were carried out in different parts of the state including Hojai, Nagaon and Karimganj districts
In one of the biggest breakthroughs for Assam Police in its crackdown on drug cartels, at least 20 drug peddlers were apprehended in Hojai district.
As per inputs, an undercover 4-member police team acting on specific intelligence went to the Nokhuti area in Lanka to trace links of drugs trade. The police team went to the area by posing as consumers. But the drug peddlers sensed about the arrival of the police officials and held them captive.
Soon a police reinforcement team arrived at the spot to rescue the team from the custody of the drug peddlers. It was indeed a daring operation by the police as they came under fire from the drug peddlers to which the cops retaliated. However, the undercover police team was brought to safety.
12 persons were arrested from the spot after the incident. But in yet another pre-dawn crackdown 8 others were also arrested by the police. Further probe into the incident is underway.
On the other hand, 4 drug peddlers were also arrested from Rupahihat in Nagaon district. 73 containing narcotics substance were also seized from their possession.
Not only this, heroin worth Rs 23 lakh was seized from 2 drug peddlers at Patharkandi in Karimganj district. The police made the seizure after intercepting a car at a routine checkpoint.
In another case, 9.5 kgs of marijuana was seized from a bus at the toll gate in Nathupur in Karimganj district. 2 women drug peddlers were arrested.
