Assam: Husband hits wife, wife stabs husband to death with scissors

A wife allegedly stabbed her husband to death with a pair of scissors. The wife identified as Mampi Begum, stabbed her husband in retaliation to the husband hitting her. The incident took place in Assam’s Silchar on Tuesday night (February 21).

The deceased man has been identified as Farmin Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Silchar’s Meherpur area. He was an autorickshaw driver.

Mampi Begum, alleged that her husband used to torture her almost every day, and yesterday was another one of those days when they got into a heated argument that turned into a fight at night. Farmin Uddin Barbhuiya who was intoxicated hit her during the fight. She then hit him back by stabbing him in the neck with a pair of scissors she found lying close by, said Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Numal Mahatta.

Later, their family members gathered and immediately took Farmin Uddin Barbhuiya to Silchar Medical College and Hospitals (SMCH), however, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

There were severe cuts in parts of his body which led to his death within hours after the incident, said police.

Officials from the Silchar Sadar Police Station rushed to the hospital on receiving information about the incident and detained Mampi Begum for interogation. During the interogation, she confessed to the crime and police arrested her.

Police have registered a case against the accused Mampi Begum.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
