Assam: Heroin worth Rs 24 cr seized, probe underway to establish forward and backward linkages

In a big breakthrough, the Assam Police has recovered drugs worth Rs 24 crore from Dholai in Cachar district. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to Cachar SP, Numal Mahatta informed that pre dawn raids were carried based on specific secret inputs during which the seizure was made. Without naming any, the Cachar SP said that the consignment was smuggled from a neighbouring state.
A total of 4.765 kg heroin was recovered during the raids.
Briefing newspersons, Cachar SP Mahatta said, “Last night acting on secret inputs, we carried out raids at Islamabad area in Dholai. During the course we managed to apprehend one person- Abdul Hussain Laskar. We could recover huge quantity of heroin from his possession. The consignment was packed in 30 soapcases and 4 leather bags. In total 4.765 kg of heroin was recovered.
As per preliminary investigation it can be said that the smuggling of the consignment started 4-5 days back from a neighbouring state. We had been observing the movement and when last night it entered Assam we could apprehend the person and recover the consignment.”
The police is now working on to trace the forward and backward linkages into the drugs smuggling case. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said, “We could establish links of interstate as well as international drugs cartels, but to ascertain the forward and backward linkages our investigations are underway.”
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the Cachar Police for its crackdown on drugs menace. In a post on X, the CM wrote, “Major Drugs haul in Cachar worth ₹24 crore!!
Based on credible intelligence, @cacharpolice conducted an operation in the wee hours today and apprehended a suspect in Dholai.
30 soap boxes and 4 leather bags containing 4.765 kgs of suspected heroin was recovered from his possession which was being transported from a neighbouring State.
