First Published: 1st September, 2024 13:57 IST

The Chief Secretary stressed that Assam Tea should be promoted and sold purely as Assam Tea and avoid being blended with teas from other regions.

In a significant move to boost the tea industry, the Assam government has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing the sector.

Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota emphasized the need for a collective effort to promote quality over quantity, address low market prices, and support small tea growers and workers.

Addressing the 10th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of All India Tea Traders Association, Dr. Kota highlighted the government’s initiatives to ensure safe, compliant, and transparent tea production.

He urged industry stakeholders to prioritize high-quality teas, avoid blending with teas from other regions, and support the closure of tea production by November 30 to prevent poor-quality teas.

The government has implemented measures such as routing 100% Dust teas through a public platform for open testing and encouraging the sale of Assam teas through the Guwahati Auction Centre. Dr. Kota also stressed the need for generic promotion to attract the younger generation to tea consumption.
