Assam Doctor and Team’s Surgical Triumph, Transplants Live Heart Airlifted from Nagpur into 60-Year-Old in Delhi

The heart was donated by the family of a 47-year-old man who died after suffering a brain stroke.

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Dr. Ritwik Raj Bhuyan and Dr. Milind Hote successfully transplanted a live heart into a 60-year-old patient at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Delhi on December 9.

The heart used for the surgery was flown in from Nagpur via air ambulance.

The heart was donated by the family of a 47-year-old man who died after suffering a brain stroke.

On December 9, a green corridor was created to ensure the speedy transport of the heart from Nagpur’s Kingsway Hospital to Delhi. The air ambulance carrying the live heart departed from Nagpur at 1:12 am and landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport at 3:19 am.

Within hours, the heart was successfully transplanted into the waiting recipient, giving him a new life.
