Assam cop on poll duty found dead in a pond in Golaghat

The deceased was identified as Ranabir Soren hailing from Kokrajhar.

An Assam police constable who was on election duty in Golaghat district of the state was found dead in a pond on Monday morning.

The constable identified as Ranabir Soren was found floating in the pond. Soren hailed from Kokrajhar.

As per inputs, Soren was deployed for election duty in Golaghat on Friday. He was reportedly missing for two days.

The circumstances leading to Soren’s death are unclear and an investigation is underway.

“We were called on Sunday to report that one constable had gone missing since the morning. After receiving information, our team rushed there and during search operation he was recovered in a pond within the station’s premises”, a Kokrajhar police personnel said.

Soren’s body was taken to the Shaheed Kushal Kowar Civil Hospital in Golaghat for post-mortem.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
