Assam cop held in bribery case; Rs 17.74 lakh cash recovered from his official residence

In a successful operation against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, on Thursday arrested the Sub-Inspector of Police (UB) and officer-in-charge of the Dokmoka Police Station, Karbi Anglong, after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant for allowing disturbance-free movement of his trucks carrying iron rods and cement through the Dokmoka police station area.
The arrested sub-inspector has been identified as Sanat Kumar Mudoi.
“Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Sub Inspector Sanat Kumar Mudoi, O/C of Dokmoka PS, Karbi Anglong after he accepted bribe in the PS from the complainant for allowing disturbance free movement of his trucks in the PS area,” Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption wrote on X.
The operation was launched based on a complaint received from an individual against the sub inspector for demanding bribe. Acting on the complaint, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, laid a trap on Thursday and successfully caught the sub inspector taking bribe from the complainant.
During further search of the sub inspector’s official residence, a cash amount of Rs 17,74,500 (seventeen lakh, seventy-four thousand and five hundred) was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
