Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma makes decisive move to stop menace of ragging and ensure proper academic environment in all Universities.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed all the state Universities to evict unauthorized boarders from the hostels with immediate effect.
The Chief Minister’s directive comes within days of the brutal Dibrugarh University ragging incident wherein a former student of the institute was involved.

Universities across the state has to vacate all unauthorised boarders from the hostels and report back to the government in 7 days. In the order, the Secretary to Government of Assam, Higher Education department has been directed to take up necessary follow up action. The order stated it was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that there are some former students or hostel boarders who have continued to stay on in the hostels of the Universities even after the completion of their course of studies.
This may lead to “vastation of the hostel environment as well as indiscipline along with possibility of undesirable activities,”the order stated.
Therefore in order to ensure a proper academic environment, Chief Minister Sarma has ordered that all unauthorised hostel boarders be evicted from the hostels immediately.
It may be mentioned that necessary orders in this regard has been issued to the Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Cotton University, Bodoland University, Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Kabiguru Rabindra Nath Tagore University, Bhattadev University and the Madhabdev University.

This indeed is a decisive move by the Assam Chief Minister in the backdrop of the horrific Dibrugarh University ragging case, where a junior boarder had to jump from the 3rd storey of his hostel building in a bid to escape ragging by seniors. The worst part of this incident was the fact that, the main accused Rahul Chetry was a former student of the Dibrugarh University, but was staying at the PNGB Hostel unauthorisedly even after completing his studies.
