Assam becomes 1st state to launch fully electric bike taxi service Baayu

This initiative will cut down an astounding 29,000 tons of carbon emissions annually and generate at least 5000 livelihood opportunities
Aimed at making travel easy for the commuters and contributing towards cleaner air, Assam government has launched an app-based fully electric bike taxi service named Baayu.
With this launch, Assam has become the first state in the nation to launch a fully electric bike taxi service that would significantly cut down carbon emission.
The app-based electric bike service was launched by Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and will be operated by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) in collaboration with Bikozee Ecotech.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared his thoughts on the occasion and posted on X. He wrote, “Congratulations on the launch of Bayu!
Through our multiple initiatives we are taking a big leap towards the future of public transportation- one which is fully powered by Green energy.”
Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya in a post on X lauded Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s commitment to boost entrepreneurship, economy through in the most environment friendly way.
“Big day for Assam as it becomes the first state in India to now have the nation’s first app based 100% electric & decentralised bike taxi service.
Amidst the ongoing Path Suraksha Jan Andolan, I was glad to be present at the ceremonial soft launch of this app named ‘Bayu’. This app has been launched by ASTC in collaboration with Bikozee Ecotech, an Assam based startup.
With an aim to generate over 5,000 livelihood opportunities, this app serves as a testament to HCM Dr. @himantabiswa led Assam govt’s commitment to fostering economic growth, promoting entrepreneurship & embracing environmentally conscious practices.
Besides extending my sincere wishes to the entire team, I urged the bike riders to strictly adhere to all road safety norms while commuting on roads & carrying passengers.”
This initiative will cut down an astounding 29,000 tons of carbon emission annually and Baayu is poised to save Rs 73 crore annually on fuel costs.
Supported by NITI Aayog ‘s Shoonya Zero pollution mobility campaign, “Baayu – Clean Air Movement” by ASTC aims to improve the air quality and public health of the cities by deploying Electric vehicles in transport and logistics sectors and thus implementing decentralized technologies of Beckn protocol to develop digital public infrastructures to be deployed on ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce).
