Drugs Worth Rs 2 Cr Seized, 10 Arrested in Assam’s Cachar

As part of a targeted anti-drug drive within Silchar town, police arrested 5 individuals
In a major anti-narcotics crackdown, the Cachar Police seized drugs worth Rs 2 crore and arrested 10 drug peddlers during 4 coordinated operations conducted within 24 hours across the district today.
The swift and strategic crackdown was carried out based on intelligence inputs and targeted key transit and storage points suspected to be part of a larger drug distribution network.
In the first operation near the ONGC area on National Highway-37, police apprehended Makbul Hussain of Dholai and Jamaluddin of Sonai and recovered 6 soap cases hidden in their possession, containing suspected heroin weighing about 78 grams.
In a second major bust under the jurisdiction of Kalain Police Station, police intercepted a Night Super Bus. On checking the bus thoroughly, police recovered 13 soap cases containing approximately 149 grams of suspected heroin and arrested two drug peddlers-Dilbar Hussain (24) and Kamrul Islam (26), both residents of Hailakandi.
In the third operation, police raided the residence of Anar Hussain, a resident of Saidpur, Silchar. The search led to the seizure of 16 soap cases packed with around 177 grams of suspected heroin. Subsequently, police arrested Hussain.
As part of a targeted anti-drug drive within Silchar town, police arrested 5 more individuals and recovered 44 vials of suspected narcotic substances, weighing around 12 grams.
Further investigations are underway to unearth the broader network behind the smuggling operation.
