Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Thanks Co-Passenger for Lending Charger, But Apologises to Him Later. Why?

It was a small act of mid-air kindness by a stranger but it has left a lasting impression on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Here is what happened. Chief Minister Sarma had recently taken a flight to Dubai and suddenly mid-air the CM, who is known to work even while travelling, whether is by road or by air, realised that his phone battering was running low and was almost about to die.

Just then a helpful soul, a co-passenger lent his charging cable to the CM. But the kind passenger disembarked in Dubai while the CM was asleep, leaving the CM with a borrowed charger and a sense of guilt.

On landing in Amsterdam, the Chief Minister has post a message on social media thanking the helpful young man for his gesture and made a heartfelt appeal urging him to get in touch with the CM so that he can return the item and express his gratitude properly.

“Today morning I traveled on an Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai, where a kind young gentleman lent me his international plug and charging cable. Unfortunately, he disembarked in Dubai while I was asleep, and I couldn’t return them. I’ve just now arrived in Amsterdam and feel deeply apologetic for not returning his belongings. If this message reaches him, please send me a direct message so I can arrange to return your charger and cable promptly. Thank you for your kindness, and I regret any inconvenience caused @emirates,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

While many appreciated the Chief Minister’s honesty and effort to reconnect with the helpful stranger, the post also raised concern about cybersecurity.

Several users praised CM Sarma’s sincerity, but others raised eyebrows over the potential risk of accepting charging accessories from unknown individuals, especially by those holding high office and exposing them to cyber crime.

Cybersecurity experts and netizens voiced concern about “juice jacking,” a form of cyberattack where seemingly harmless charging cables or USB ports can be used to steal data or install malware on devices. The incident, they noted, serves as a reminder of the invisible digital threats that can accompany even simple acts of kindness.
