Assam: 2 separate cases of mob lynching reported in a single day

The first case has been reported from Sipajhar in Darrang district. The second case has been reported from Tamulpur district
At a time when the Centre is planning to make mob lynching an offence that might attract maximum punishment of death penalty or minimum seven years in jail, two incidents of mob lynching has been reported from 2 different parts of Assam.
In the first case, a person suspected to be a thief was allegedly thrashed to death by an irate mob at Sipajhar in Darrang district of Assam.
The deceased identified as Majibul Haque, was brutally beaten up resulting in his death on the spot. As per inputs, at least 10 persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
“We have gathered enough evidence. We also have witnesses of the incident. On the basis of that the persons have been arrested. Probe is at the preliminary stage, 14 have been detained. The accused have been identified and hence arrested. We have proof against them,” Darrang Additional SP informed.
In the other case, a youth succumbed to injuries after he was brutally assaulted on suspicion of being a thief in Tamulpur district. The deceased have been identified as Binod Brahma. Further probe into the matter is underway and police is yet to make any official statement.
It has been learnt that prime accused Bolai Das is absconding. Bolai is said to have allegedly tied Binod Brahma before assaulting him brutally.
