In a tragic incident, at least 50 students fell unconscious after taking anti-parasitic doses in Assam’s Biswanath district.
As per inputs, the students of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed High School in Biswanath were given Albendazole tablets to treat filariasis. The students were asked to take three doses of tablets at one time.
After consuming the tablets, the students fell unconscious, and were immediately rushed to the Biswanath Chariali Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital.
It may be mentioned here that the Biswanath district health department has started a campaign to eradicate filariasis starting today.
As part of the campaign, the health department had provided free medicines to the students to eliminate the disease.
Filariasis is a parasitic disease which are spread through blood-feeding insects like mosquitoes and black flies.
Albendazole is an anti-parasitic medication that treats infections caused by tapeworms or other parasites.
The incident has angered many parents and locals leading to heated arguments over the health department prescribing the medicine without conducting any kind of tests on the students. However, the situation was brought under control by the police.
