Hundreds of people from the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) community gathered in Guwahati today for the 11th Queer Pride Parade, organised by Queer Pride Guwahati.
The rally began at Latasil Field and concluded at Sankardev Udyan.
Tannaz Mahreen, Vice President of Queer Pride Guwahati said, “More than 150 people joined the rally, with others joining along the way. We’ve had great participation this year. The Pride Parade is all about showcasing diversity, fighting for equality, and celebrating the vibrant voices of the LGBTQIA+ community. “
This year’s theme, “Passing the Mic,” highlighted the importance of amplifying underrepresented voices, not only within the LGBTQIA+ community but across all marginalized groups. It emphasized the need to create spaces for people from diverse backgrounds, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, caste, or socioeconomic status.
“The theme encourages allies and those with privilege to step back, listen, and make room for the most underrepresented voices to take the lead. It’s a call for inclusivity and solidarity, reminding us that true equality means uplifting everyone, especially those facing the greatest challenges,” she added.
