Lauding the efforts to conserve the wildlife, PM Modi heaped praise on the people of the frontier state during his address to the nation through 'Mann Ki Baat'.

PM Narendra Modi today appreciated the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their untiring efforts to save birds and voluntarily deciding to quit the use of air guns.

Lauding the efforts to conserve the wildlife, PM Modi heaped praise on the people of the frontier state during his address to the nation through ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

In his message, PM Modi said, “My dear countrymen, people of Arunachal Pradesh have run a year-long unique campaign and named it as ‘Arunachal Pradesh Air Gun Surrender Campaign.’

In this campaign, people are surrendering their air guns willingly. Does anyone know why? It has been done so that the indiscriminate hunting of birds in Arunachal Pradesh can be stopped.”

PM Modi appreciating the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is blessed with rich flora and fauna said, “Arunachal Pradesh is home to more than 500 species of birds, among them includes indigenous species too which are not found anywhere else in the world.”

However, PM Modi also expressed his concern over the fact that the population of birds is on a decline.

PM Modi said, “But, slowly now the number of birds is declining in the forests and to improve the situation, the ‘Air gun Surrender Abhiyan’ is underway. In the past few months, from the Hills to the Plains, from one community to another community, people have adopted this. People of Arunachal Pradesh have willingly surrendered more than 1600 airguns so far. I appreciate the people of Arunachal Pradesh for this.”

BJP Arunachal Pradesh posted a clip of Narendra Modi’s address through Maan Ki Baat.

Arunachal CM Pema Khandu also reposted the clip.

The success story of the Air gun Surrender Abhiyan (ASA) in Arunachal Pradesh, a brainchild of Arunachal Environment, Forest and Climate Change minister Mama Natung, first began November last year.

The Airgun Surrender Abhiyan (ASA) also had received international recognition at the UNESCO’s International Conference on Biosphere Reserves at Sabah in Malaysia.
