Less than a week into the announcement of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections results, Kumar Waii the lone Congress MLA in the frontier state has accused the BJP of using money power to win the elections.
Waii briefing newspersons in Itanagar said that the saffron party had used money to purchase votes. The Congress MLA said this when he was asked about the BJP’s slogan for a Congress Mukt (Congress Free) Arunachal Pradesh.
Kumar Waii said, “The BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh has given money to our people, but it could not share love. The BJP has done nothing. In the elections the BJP paid money, because of which they could secure votes. They bought majority that way and we have to accept it. BJP always say and believe that the Congress must be removed. They also believe that they have money and power. Congress will not be removed if they speak something on the basis of these 2 aspects, nothing is going to happen.”
Since he is an MLA of the Congress and the BJP will be forming the government in the state, Waii was asked if this would create hindrances as far as development in Bameng constituency is concerned.
Waii responed to this by saying, “I believe that Pema Khandu is an educated youth leader. I might be a MLA of the opposition Congress, but the people of Bameng have not such affiliation. The rights of the people will have to be delivered. None can silent me the Assembly.”
The Congress may have failed to regain its lost strength in Arunachal Pradesh as the grand old party could win only just one seat in the state Assembly elections, but it has failed to dampen the spirits of the party workers.
Determined to strengthen the party in the days to come, Congress workers came together to felicitate the lone elected MLA Kumar Waii, who won from the Bameng Assembly constituency.
A program was held at the party headquarter in Itanagar to mark the occasion wherein Waii was felicitated by the Congress workers of different ranks.
Elated over his success Kumar Waii attributed his success to the youths of his constituency who backed him fully and had not in anyway come under the influence of money power.
Lauding the youths Waii said, “The youths of Bameng assembly constituency totally supported me morally and physically, the other youths must also learn this. If any youth is being influenced by the use of money power or intoxicants (during elections) than they must look at the youths of Bameng. They have no desire for money, they are not greedy.”
