Asked if he will be the Chief Minister for the 3rd straight term, Pema Khandu said that the party's central leadership will take a call on this.

It was an impressive show by the BJP in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elecitons, as the Saffron party won 46 seats in the 60-member assembly, an increase by 5 seats as compared to the 2019 results.
Congress was decimated yet again as the party managed to win only 1 seat.

The final tally is-
BJP- 46
NPP- 05
NCP- 03
PPA- 02
Congress- 01
Independent- 03

The BJP could easily retain its bastion in the frontier state, and decks are now almost clear for Pema Khandu to become the Chief Minister for the 3rd consecutive term.

While, the BJP workers and leaders are overjoyed over the party’s landslide victory, Pema Khandu seemed solely focused on his next course of action. But at the same time, Khandu clearly conveyed that it is only the party’s central leadership, which will decide as to who will be the next Chief Minister.

During an exclusive conversation with Northeast Live, Khandu was asked as to what would be the priority of the new government.

In his response CM Khandu said, “In this election the manifesto which the party had prepared, we had touched every sector in that. In the days to come the government which will be formed by the BJP will work in that direction and fulfilling those promises. BJP we stand with our committment. It is nothing like elections are gone and we forget everything. Looking at how people have blessed us, I think we have to work much more than whatever we have done so far. We will work on the promises made in the manifesto in the next 5 years.”

Asked if he will be the Chief Minister for the 3rd straight term, Pema Khandu said, “Our party is a very disciplined party, so no one makes claims . There is a process within the party, as such a senior leader of the party will be coming here. After that the party will decide on who will be the next Chief Minister. BJP is not like any other party. Whatever decision is taken by the party, we follow it. There is no candidate for this (CM candidate) in BJP. It will be finalized after the BJP legislature party meeting where a senior central leader of the party will be present.

We will stake claim to form the government after the MP election results are out. After that our newly elected MLAs will come to Itanagar. After holding the BJP legislature party meeting we will stake claim.”

Khandu attributed the success of his party to the era of transformation ushered in the frontier state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said, “The historic victory which BJP has registered today, I give credit for this to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and our BJP national president JP Nadda. Whatever has been done by the government in Arunachal Pradesh in the last 8-10 years is truly remarkable. The victory is the reflection of those works. People have faith on PM Narendra Modi. So BJP has once again received blessings from the people in the form of a thumping majority.”

Expressing gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, CM Khandu said, “BJP has set a record in Arunachal Pradesh. Last time in 2019 BJP had won 41 seats, but this time we have won 46. I want to thank the people of Arunachal Pradesh for electing the BJP with a thumping majority. I convey my heartfelt thanks to the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

CM Khandu also informed that the BJP government will complete the remaining works as far as resolving the border issue with Assam is concerned.

He said, “Almost 90% of the issue has been resolved. In few areas the demarcation is to be done, we will take this up as soon as possible.”
