First Published: 2nd July, 2023 15:23 IST

Tirap DC Hento Karga has ordered a probe into the complaints by the students, a 9-member committee has been formed.

Shocking but true. A group of meritorious students have returned laptops given to them by the government of Arunachal Pradesh, which they alleged were faulty and previously used by other users.

Toppers of the 10th and 12 standards in the CBSE 2023 final examinations in the Tirap district were awarded laptops in a program organized by the education department on June 20.

Students awarded laptops on June 20

But as days passed by, the students could not use the laptops due to technical malfunctions. They also found abusive materials already stored in the laptops.

In a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Tirap district, the students alleged laptops showed severe signs of wear and tear, scratches, ill fitment, malfunctioning of charging slots and batteries, vulgar videos stored, voice recording and names and signatures of previous users.

The students returned the laptops to the office of the Tirap DC.

Taking strong exception of the issue, Deputy Commissioner Hento Karga has formed a 9 member Committee of technical experts headed by a Circle Officer to investigate the matter. The Committee will submit its report on Monday (tomorrow).

The laptops were given as part of the District Academic Toppers Award 2021-2022 being implemented by the Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE), under Scheme of Budget Annoucement 2021-2022, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
