Arunachal: Shi Yomi becomes the first district to launch the District Development Index

The District Development Index model aims to bring transparency to governance and ensure accountability in the timely execution of government schemes
Shi Yomi, a district among the 28 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, is just 6 years old. But it has become the first district of the frontier state to launch the District Development Index, an initiative that gives the power to the common man to point out if the construction quality of the road being built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana or PMGSY in his or her village, or the house being built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is not of good quality or up to the mark. Using this government portal, a resident of Shi Yomi can lodge a complaint if a government project is delayed causing inconvenience to the people.
The District Development Index model aims to bring transparency to governance and ensure accountability in the timely execution of government schemes. It allows the public to stay informed about the progress of various welfare projects and directly participate in ensuring that standards are met.
The digital display board, which reflects the project’s status, was inaugurated at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office by P.D. Sona, Minister for Education, Rural Works and Tourism. Deputy Commissioner Liyi Bagra, along with heads of various departments and local residents, attended the event. Bagra emphasized that the initiative is a step toward bridging the gap between the government and the public, ensuring that development work is conducted with utmost transparency.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Deputy Commissioner Liyi Bagra said, “The idea behind the District Development Index is to exhibit transparency in all projects and programmes implemented under various departments in the Shi Yomi district. On the digital display board, residents can see the progress and status of the ongoing projects. This government is a welfare government, so people can come and inspect the district development index to know about the progress of ongoing projects. The administration must create public awareness about the ongoing developmental projects in the district.”
Shi Yomi, which was established only six years ago in 2018, is now setting an example for other districts in the region by prioritizing public involvement and government accountability.
