Hundreds of students of the Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang District staged a peaceful protest today demanding the immediate appointment of lecturers to various posts of the government-owned college.

Students carrying placards and banners marched from the college premises and reached Kamba, the ADC headquarters in West Siang district. The protest was organized by the Students Union of the College.

The students demanded the immediate posting of two lecturers for Commerce and one each for Hindi, Economics and History.

Located in Kamki which is 23 kms from Aalo, the district headquarters of West Siang district, the college has around 900 students. It is the lone government institution for higher education for students of West Siang, Siang, and Shi-Yomi districts of the state. The union informed that it had earlier submitted a memorandum to the state government through the ADC for settlement of the demands but to date there has been no action taken. The students also threatened to intensify their stir if the government does not look into their demands.
