Arunachal: Heavy snowfall in Tawang, several vehicles stranded on Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) Road

Owing to the prevailing weather condition the Tawang District Administration has issued a traffic advisory to regulate the movement of vehicles entering the district

While it is a bliss for many to enjoy the heavy snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, but the same has left several vehicles including trucks carrying essentials stranded on the crucial Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) Road.

Owing to heavy snowfall, around thirty trucks and passenger vehicles have been stranded near Sela Pass for last three days. Due to the harsh weather condition, those stranded are facing untold miseries like running out of food stock with freezing temperatures only escalating their trouble.

However, as per latest inputs the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is providing food and other essentials to those in distress.

On the other hand the present situation has prompted the Tawang District Administration to issue traffic advisory for regulating the movement of vehicles entering the district.

As per the traffic advisory-
i). All the movement of traffic, both civilian and Army, paramilitary forces on the Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) Road from Police Check Gate, Jang (Tawang) towards Sela Pass shall be allowed to move on alternate dates from 5, 7, 9, and 11 February and continue accordingly

ii). All the movement of traffic from West Kameng district side shall be allowed to enter the jurisdiction of Tawang district on alternate basis on 6, 8, 10, and 12 February and continue accordingly.

iii). Movement of Emergency service vehicles like ambulance, power and water supply shall be allowed without restrictions subject to weather and road conditions.

As per the advisory, continues snowfall has been experienced in the Sela Pass area due to which heavy accumulation of snow has been reported on the BCT Road from Jaswant Garh (Tawang) to Baisakhi in West Kameng district. The advisory stated that this has led to traffic jams for hours together or even days on the already stressed-out road condition.

The Arunachal Tourism department posted a copy of the traffic advisory on X and said that any violation, “shall entail prosecution as per law and this advisory shall remain in force until further notice.”

It may be mentioned that different parts of the frontier state are experiencing snowfall. Chief Minister Pema Khandu himself posted pictures on social media.
