Arunachal Assembly Elections: Ninong Ering’s supporters engage in hectic electioneering

Ering met with a road accident on Saturday and is presently undergoing a traditional ritual of healing ‘Ipak' and is not allowed to go outside his home.

With simultaneous assembly and parliamentary elections just a few days left, the electioneering situation here in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh is turning more hot and challenging with various parties battling hard to come victorious and win the election.

Ninong Ering, sitting MLA from 37th Pasighat West and official BJP candidate, had sustained minor injuries in a road accident on Saturday is currently undergoing a traditional rituals of healing at his home. As per this traditional ritual of ‘Ipak’ he is not allowed to go out and others are also not allowed to visit him.

Many see that this will impact Ering’s prospects in the elections.

However, Ninong’s inability to campaign has not deterred his supporters as well as the BJP workers from drumming up support in his favour. The highly spirited BJP workers are reaching out to every voter on the sole agenda of development for all.

Aruni Jamoh, ZPM Ruksin speaking to Northeast Live said, “It will not be wrong to say that there is 99 % (winning chances) for the BJP in Pasighat. The status of the MLA and MP is quite good. Both Ninong Ering (MLA candidate) and Tair Gao (BJP Arunachal East Lok Sabha candidate) will lead from the front in Pasighat.

The NCP has no chance at all. We are fully confident.”

37th Pasighat West Mandal President, Tadi Jonnom said BJP in 37th Pasighat West is clearly winning with a thumping majority.

Former East Siang District BJP Yuva Morcha President, Mongol Taga said, “”There is no question of victory or defeat, the BJP is only fighting for the margin, the NCP has already lost, it is beyond question. I cannot say about the exact figures but looking at the present circumstances there is at least 70-75% votes with the BJP in 37 Pasighat. We are 100% sure that we will win.”

Ninong Ering is former Lok Sabha MP from the Arunachal East (from 2009 to 2019). He was the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs from 2012 to 2014.

Ering was a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing Pasighat East constituency as an independent candidate from 1990 to 1995. In 1995, he again contested from the same constituency as an independent candidate, but he was defeated by the Congress candidate Tobar Jamoh.

From 1999 to 2004 he again became a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing the same constituency as a Congress candidate. From 1999 to 2002, he was the Minister of State of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and from 2002 to 2004, he was the Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
