3-day Itanagar bandh: 7 more arrested as preventive measure

Arunachal Pradesh police arrested seven more people as part of its move to prevent any law and order situation in capital city Itanagar and the state as the state entered day two today of the 3-day bandh called by some individual groups to protest the APPSC question paper leak.

The arrest of seven more people has taken the total number of arrests done to prevent any untoward incident to 37.

“Seven more preventive arrests have been made to ensure no disruption in law and order situation. The situation is normal in Itanagar,” Itanagar SP Rohit Rajbir Singh told Northeast Live.

Earlier on May 9 and 10, 30 preventive arrests were made including arresting activist Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar Tara, Aam Admi Party worker, Taw Pail, Chairman of Pro Dam Movement, 4 social influencers – Nabam Sanjay, Yowa Bosco, Viral Rabha, Yowa Topu and 7 agitators – Kaku Yarda, Licha Talang, Jidam Riamuk, Gyamar Tayu, Prem Dada, Phassang Kechak and Dangi Pabin.

SP Singh also informed that some medical, and grocery shops have already opened today and the district administration and police are encouraging people to come out and carry on their normal work.

Police is not stopping general people to walk on the streets, or travelling from one place to another, but only taking preventive measures to ensure miscreants do not disrupt law and order, the official added.

Speaking to the media last night, Itanagar DC, Talo Potom who has been on the ground monitoring the situation has said that situation is absolutely normal in the capital complex area and that people and traders should not fear to venture out of their houses.

DC Talo Potom also informed that a joint meeting will be held today at 11AM with all stakeholders, including MLAs, and market committees and the situation continues to be normal then the district administration might consider withdrawal of Section 144 and also lift the ban on mobile Internet services.
