Amid a buzz that former Meghalaya Chief Minister and TMC leader Dr. Mukul Sangma will join BJP, party national president and in-charge of Meghalaya BJP unit, Dr M Chuba Ao today said that its totally upto Mukul Sangma whether he wants to join BJP or not.

Speaking to media, Chuba Ao said that BJP leadership has not approached Mukul Sangma to join the party.

He said, “It is up to him, not the BJP, to decide whether or not to join BJP.”

For quite some time now, there have been rumors that Mukul Sangma will join the BJP.

However, earlier in November last year, Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, the TMC leader has rubbished all rumours and said that the narrative of him joining another party had also come up right after the general election this year.

He said that he is taking a relaxed approach for now, before focusing on the 2028 assembly polls.

“No, I am not joining BJP. I am aware of the fact that the narrative circulated by media reports. This is nothing new. This has been there immediately after the results for the 2023 state assembly election was out. We have a long way to go until the next assembly election in 2028. The present government has been just there just for few months and therefore it’s only appropriate for me to enjoy the luxury of this initial part of this term to rejuvenate myself physically, spiritually and, politically,” said Mukul Sangma.

Speaking about joining any political other party, he said that he will take a call only before 2028 assembly elections.
