Mizoram CM Lalduhoma meets PM Modi, EAM Jaishankar, discusses on refugee crisis in state

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi.
He apprised the Prime Minister that current border demarcation with Myanmar was forced upon the two ethnic groups of Myanmar and Mizoram without their prior consent.
CM Lalduhoma stated that the wish of people on both sides of the border is to come under one administration, and that the refugees seeking shelter inside Mizoram are not treated differently.
In a post on Instgram, the Chief Minister stated that the Prime Minister had advised him to submit a proposal for a more uniformed system of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
Taking to X, CM Lalduhoma wrote, “Productive meeting with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji today. Delighted to strengthen our collaboration for the progress and development of #Mizoram. Looking forward to frequent discussions on key issues.”
He also met Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari, and held a discussion on improving the state of roads in the state and accelerating ongoing projects.

Yesterday, the recently elected CM called on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and discussed the issue of Myanmar refugees currently residing in Mizoram.
He apprised the External Affairs Minister that the demarcation of the two countries was forced upon by the British and that as Mizos, it was impossible to accept the border.
Lalduhoma also told EAM S Jaishankar that if fencing at the border with Myanmar is done, it will be considered as a sign of separation from our ethnic brethren.
Around 44,000 people from the neighbouring countries and state have taken shelter in Mizoram due to several problems including ethnic violence.
Apart from the refugee issue, the chief minister during their meeting also discussed how the External Affairs Ministry and the Mizoram government could collaborate more closely.
During their meeting, the Chief Minister also discussed about measures that the Mizoram government and the External Affairs Ministry could work together more closely.
