The 12 hour Lohit and Anjaw districts bandh called by three student organisations, namely the All Mishimi Students Union, All Lohit District Students Union and the All Anjaw District Students Union passed off peacefully without any untoward incident being reported from the area.
The 12-hour bandh began at 6 am today despite the restriction put by the district deputy commissioner. Police and para military forces maintained a strict vigil in eastern Arunachal Pradesh particularly in the town of Tezu.
The Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate of Lohit Karma Leki, through an executive order had termed the bandh as illegal and warned the bandh organisers not to try to enforce it, the students unions of Lohit and Anjaw districts decided to go ahead with the 12 hour bandh.
The bandh had been called demanding immediate and unconditional release of student leaders arrested by the SIT of Arunachal Pradesh police on August 5 in relation to the infamous Tezu lynching case.
