Rahul Gandhi to cover 6,200 km from Imphal to Mumbai during his Bharat Nyay Yatra

First Published: 27th December, 2023 19:19 IST

The Yatra, which will be undertaken mostly by bus with short stretches of walking, will cover 6,200 kilometres across 14 states.

After his Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, that criss crossed the country from Kashmir in the north to Kanyakumari in the south, Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi is now all set to embark on Bharat Nyay Yatra from January 14 to March 20.

The yatra will start from Manipur capital Imphal in the northeast and conclude in Mumbai in the west. The Yatra, which will be undertaken mostly by bus with short stretches of walking, will cover 6,200 kilometres across 14 states and 85 districts. The Yatra will be flagged off by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in Imphal.

Reacting to the announcement of the Yatra from Manipur, Manipur Congress president, Keisham Meghachandra Singh said, “The historic Yatra will start from Manipur and for this I extend my gratitude to the AICC, its president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul ji. The yatra will serve justice to the people of Manipur. We are suffering because of Modiji’s autocratic regime both in centre and state.”

Taking a jibe at Rahul and his plans for the Yatra, BJP National Spokesperson Nalin Kohli said that the Congress and Rahul Gandhi are entitled to come out with political programmes like Bharat Jodo Yatra, but the people have rejected that idea.

He further said that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress cannot have duplicity in their approach by coining some slogans thinking that the people of India will be fooled.

“First Rahul Gandhi started a Bharat Jodo Yatra but he sides with people who want to break the country, he takes foreign visits and asks them to interfere in India’s internal matters. So his words don’t match his actions,” he said.

Kohli further added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been doing actual justice (nyay) since 2014 by ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country.
Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra will pass through the states of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and finally Maharashtra.

The Yatra comes just ahead of Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and the timing of the Yatra will coincide with the time when campaigning is set to be at its peak.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra that started in Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022 and concluded on January 30 this year in Srinagar after covering 3,970 km across 12 states and two union territories was seen as a major outreach programme of the Congress energising its cadres in the southern states.
