Popular Assam cop also known as Singham-style Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anand Mishra, who is currently serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakhimpur has resigned from his service with effect from January 16, 2024.

Mishra (Assam-Meghalaya Cadre, 2011 RR Batch) has tendered his resignation to Assam Chief Secretary
Pawan Borthakur on Decembe 18.

In his resignation letter, SP Mishra said that he has resigned from his service to pursue other social and personal goals in life.

“This is to submit my unconditional resignation with effect from January 16, 2024 from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS,” Mishra’s resignation letter read.

Anand Mishra is well-known for the way he has been fighting Assam’s war on drugs, cattle smuggling, robbery, and other crimes in the state.

Recently Mishra and SP Randeep Baruah were given charge of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) constituted for Manipur incidents.

Before being posted as SP Lakhimpur, he was posted as the SP of Nagaon. His time in Nagaon was marred by controversy following a shooting incident in which student leader Kirti Kamal Bora was tragically shot by local police when they were conducting an anti-drug operation.

Prior to Lakhimpur, he was posted as SP Dhubri and he was very popular among the people.
