A furniture factory and five houses were gutted in a devastating fire that erupted in the Kanakpur area of Silchar suburb on Sunday morning.

The inferno resulted in extensive damage, leaving behind a scene of devastation and loss. Property worth over Rs 20 is said to be destroyed in the fire that broke out in the furniture factory spreading fast to the neighbouring houses.

Locals tried to extinguish the fire using water from the nearby river and ponds but failed to douse the blaze.

Repeated calls to the Rangirkhari police outpost yielded no response, prompting two youths to rush to the fire station for help.
By the time the fire brigade arrived, significant damage was done. Important documents, household belongings, and the entire furniture shop’s inventory was turned into ashes. Locals suspect the tragedy was sparked by an electrical short circuit.
