Tripura: STGT candidates stage massive protest demanding fast release of results and hiring of qualified candidates

Furious over the inordinate delay in the results announcement of the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) even after more than a year, candidates who had appeared for the test have once again staged a massive protest in Tripura today.

Candidates staged a protest in front of Ujjayanta Palace, urging the immediate release of examination results and the selection of qualified candidates for teaching positions in government-run schools.

With placards in hand, the protestors vented their anger at the lengthy hold-up in the release of the results, pointing out that more than a year and a half had passed since the test was conducted, however, the results are yet to be announced.

They stated that, in spite of earlier promises from the then-education minister that the delay was caused by a legal issue, the problem still exists even after it has been resolved.

The protestors highlighted that many candidates are now at risk of ageing and no longer be eligible for government jobs.

They added that those who took education loans for completing their B.Ed degree, a prerequisite for the teacher eligibility examination, find themselves unemployed and struggling to repay the loans as banks are sending notices.

The agitators appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha to address the issue as early as possible.

In order to address the teacher shortage in government schools and to protect the future of aspiring educators, they pointed out the urgency of finishing the recruitment process.

Earlier in November, these candidates staged a protest in front of the Siksha Bhavan in Agartala demanding the same.

In July this year, the Tripura Government had informed about its intention to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) with the Supreme Court to resolve complexities regarding the recruitment of graduate teachers.
