An Italian-made 7.65 MM pistol, a magazine, and cash were recovered from the deceased

A dreaded dacoit, identified as Lagaan Sahani, allegedly involved in a series of robbery cases in Dergaon, Assam, died in police firing. Sahani, arrested on Sunday, was shot when trying to escape from police custody, police officials said today.

An Italian-made 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, and cash were recovered from the deceased.

Speaking about the incident, a victim who was robbed by Sahani said, “The dreaded dacoit took gold which amounted to Rs 2 lakh from my house on November 28. Today, I received the news that he has been shot dead. There is a bit of relief, but I also wanted a proper inquiry into who else were involved in the dacoity as we spent sleepless nights due to the robbery at our place.”

Another individual stated, “There has been a relief after we heard the news of the dreadful dacoit’s death, and I hope, in future, such incidents won’t take place.”
