Lalduhoma takes oath as 6th CM of Mizoram. Here is what he plans to do in first 100 days

The Lalduhoma government had decided to adopt certain austerity measures to deal with the present financial condition and cut down public expenditure.

Within minutes of being sworn in as the 6th Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma has set the ball rolling. The retired IPS officer turned politician has hit the ground running as he announced a slew of measures that he and his just sworn in government will take over the next 100 days to ensure all-round betterment and upliftment of the people of Mizoram who showed their trust on him and voted him and his team to power.

Top on the agenda are steps against corruption, war on drugs, welfare of farmers and austerity measures to be followed by the government and its officials to pull the state out from the financial stress and put the state’s economy back in shape.

Stating that the financial situation in the state is bad, Lalduhoma mentioned that the ZPM government will prepare a new goal-oriented budget, in addition to each department preparing their own accurate budget.

Speaking about the austerity measures to be taken up by his government, Lalduhoma informed that a Resource Mobilization Committee (RMC) will be established with his cabinet ministers will lead the way.
As per the plans, each minister will be allotted 2 vehicles of which one will be used as a backup vehicle, and no new vehicles would be purchased for the MLAs.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Lalduhoma also requested the public to stop inviting Ministers and MLAs as chief guests in events and adhere to the steps taken up by the government.

Remaining steadfast on the commitment to wipe out corruption, CM Lalduhoma that the government will be honest while performing its duties and responsibilities. To ensure transparency, Lalduhoma mentioned that ‘Complaints and Suggestions’ boxes will be placed in all government departments.

The Chief Minister said that government employees will now be able to voice their concerns as well as other issues, which was not the case in the previous regimes. However, the government will act tough against erring government officials who have either totally abstained from attending office or have employed others as ‘dummy’ to attend office on their behalf. The Chief Minister maintained that such officials will have to justify before competent authorities by January 2024.

Not only this, Lalduhoma said that his government will do away with the Mizoram Subordinate Services Selection Board (MSSSB) and the Socio Economic Development Program (SEDP).

It may be mentioned that SEDP was one of the key agendas of the MNF in this election. While the Opposition termed the MNF’s flagship programme as a failure, the MNF had maintained that it was a grand success.

The efforts to resolve the interstate border issues particularly with Assam, is expected to gain further momentum as Lalduhoma has announced that a Boundary Committee will be established soon.

Affirming that welfare of the farmers is one of the priorities for his government, Lalduhoma stated that new furnishings produced locally will be used in all government buildings.
