The abductors of the two villagers, abducted on November 28 from Chop village under the Wakka circle of Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh, have now demanded a ransom of Rs 1.65 crores for their release.
A 15-member heavily armed militant group, belonging to the NSCN (Ang Mai) faction, had abducted Chingsan Wangham and Chopkhu Gangsa, the King and the village headman of Chop village respectively at around 6:30pm.
The outfit has demanded a whopping sum of Rs 1 crore for their release, and another Rs 65 lakhs as so called fine from villagers for being allegedly workers for the security forces, which the duo did not pay when demanded by the outfit 3 months back.
It may be mentioned here that two separate letters dated December 1 and signed by self-styled Col. Akham, have been issued to the villagers.
Meanwhile, IGP (Law and Order) Chuku Apa is scheduled to arrive in Longding later today to take stock of the law and order situation prevailing in the sensitive district following back to back abduction.
He will also review the ongoing counter insurgency operations carried out by the security forces in the district.
